Location
Better In Belize is located in a tropical forest on the Macal River, 15-20 minutes south-east of the town of Benque Viejo Del Carmen, in the spectacular Cayo District of Belize, Central America. The land is hilly as it is part of the foothills of the Mayan mountain range. The pristine Macal River flows out of the mountains past the property with our ecovillage being the first real sign of habitation as it flows towards the Mopan and Belize Rivers.

There are three small tiers of waterfalls on our waterfront section of the magnificent Macal River. There is a hydrodam upstream and another one being built downstream which will form a reservoir for canoeing and kayaking.
The area is a tropical rainforest paradise. Across the river from Better In Belize is the Pine Ridge Mountain Reserve and on the other side of our ecovillage is the Vaca Forest reserve. The views from any vantage point in the community show pristine rainforest with no sign of human development.
Close to our development, along the hydro road to Benque, is the Che Chem Ha Cave. This traditional Mayan ceremonial cave has more artifacts in it than any of the other ceremonial caves in Belize. It is a mere 5-minute drive up the road from our ecovillage.
The Cayo District in the west of Belize is the largest and most temperate of Belize's districts. The capital of Cayo is San Ignacio.
