Mile 11, Hummingbird Highway,Stann Creek

This farm is located on the two-lane, all-weather Old Mullins River Road, about three miles north of Pomona New Site Village off Mile 11 of the Hummingbird Highway. It is an older farm that has been in one family for 85 years. The citrus trees, primarily orange, range from 12 to 22 years of age. Production has averaged around 6,000 boxes in recent years which puts the average per acre near 200—lower than that for orange, higher for grapefruit. As with most small groves, inputs have been less than optimum. The soil is good; drainage is excellent on undulating terrain; culverts have been installed for passage over on-site creeks. There are two old board houses along the property’s roadside that are currently occupied by the owner. One hill, offering a fine 360 degree view, is located in the center of the parcel.
